Khaya Fraites Chats About Voice Acting, The Empyrean Series, and Onyx Storm Theories

Fourth Wing has sparked something in fantasy readers worldwide! For those who might not be familiar with the series by Rebecca Yarros, here’s a quick overview:

The Empyrean Series follows FMC Violet Sorregnail, initially meant for life as a scribe, forced to become a dragon rider in the brutal war college Basgiath. She must survive dangerous trials, bond with a dragon, and navigate intense rivalries, friendships, and relationships, including one with the powerful Wingleader Xaden Riorson. The series explores themes of survival, sacrifice, and the struggle to reconcile personal desires with the demands of a harsh environment. Book three, Onyx Storm, was released in January 2025.

Now — the person bringing Violet’s voice to life in Graphic Audio’s adaptation of this series is none other than Khaya Fraites.

The nightcap

Khaya has two go-to sips for you to savor! When you’re winding down, a simple chamomile tea and honey will keep you company while you read. But sometimes, she needs something a bit stronger that’s “salty and briny.” It’s right up our alley — a dirty vodka martini.
